Accessibility Statement

Last Updated: 24 November 2025, 10:00 GMT

Cork City Gaol & Radio Museum Experience is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website, https://corkcitygaol.com/, by adhering to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standards.

Compliance Status

This statement applies to the entire primary domain, https://corkcitygaol.com/, and its core content published or updated since the date of this audit.

The Cork City Gaol & Radio Museum Experience website is fully conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA, with the exception of the non-conforming items listed below, which are primarily related to third-party integrations that are outside of our direct control.

  • Testing Date: 24/11/2025
  • Conformance Standard: WCAG 2.2 Level AA

Accessibility Features Implemented

The audit confirmed that the website passes all core WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria. The following are some of the key features and standards implemented to support and improve accessibility:

  • Keyboard Accessibility: All functionality on the site can be accessed via keyboard-only navigation, with clear focus indicators.
  • Text Alternatives: All images, icons, and non-text content include meaningful alt text or equivalent, and decorative images are hidden.
  • Structure and Adaptability: Content is correctly structured using semantic HTML and proper heading levels, allowing it to adapt to different screen sizes and assistive technologies.
  • Contrast and Resizing: Text and graphical elements meet or exceed the required color contrast ratios. Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
  • Navigation and Consistency: Descriptive link text is used, and a logical focus order is maintained for keyboard users. The navigation structure remains consistent across pages.
  • Form Usability: Form fields are properly labeled, and error messages clearly identify the issue and how to fix it.
  • Assistive Technology Compatibility: Proper use of ARIA attributes ensures the site functions correctly with assistive technologies like screen readers.

Non-Conformities and Exclusions

Despite our efforts to ensure compliance, we acknowledge that certain embedded elements remain outside of full conformance. These third-party components are exceptions to our compliance status:

Non-Conforming Element Reasoning for Exclusion
Youtube video Videos embedded from YouTube. While YouTube provides automatic synchronised captions, no additional audio descriptions may have been added for videos with important visual elements.
Google reCAPTCHA The embedded third-party spam prevention tool. As this is an external script, Cork City Gaol has limited control over its code, which may not fully conform to all ARIA and focus management standards.
Google Map An embedded third-party map from Google. This is an external IFrame and often presents challenges for keyboard-only users and screen readers, over which we have limited control.
AddToAny Share Buttons A third-party social sharing feature. This tool is provided as a pre-packaged widget, and its proprietary code, particularly related to keyboard focus and ARIA attributes, cannot be modified.
Bookings Subdomain The bookings subdomain is operated using a third-party platform whose code and user interface are not fully controlled by us. As a result, certain accessibility issues may be present, including potential challenges with keyboard navigation, focus management, ARIA compatibility, and screen reader support.

We are continually working to improve the accessibility of our website. If you encounter any barriers on https://corkcitygaol.com/, wish to report an issue, or require content to be provided in an accessible format, please contact us.
